One Response to “Say You’ll Stay Until Tomorrow”

  1. Say You’ll Stay Until Tomorrow was Jones first album of original material for Epic Records, and the returned the singer after a brief lull commercially to the upper half of the US album charts and the To 20 of the US Singles Charts. In a small surprise, the title track and first single also crossed over unexpectedly to the US Country Charts, where it hit #1,making Jones the first act in the Billboard Chart era to hit #1 with their very first ever country charting hit. In the late 70’s through the mid 80’s Jones would record almost exclusively country material, which helped him maintain a small presence on the US Country Charts with multiple Top 20 singles and albums, but did not sell as well overseas and did not match the staggering success of his late 60’s/early 70’s run.

Most of this album however is middle of the road pop, mostly ballads, very little uptempo, and other than the title cut no country. Stand out tracks include his remakes of the 60’s pop classic “Take Me Tonight” and “The Anniversary Song” plus a solid rendition of Paul Anka’s “One Man Woman”. Not as varied as some of his 60’s albums, or for that matter some of his more recent efforts, but a solid pop record with some nice romantic love songs suited to Jones vocal style.
