Tom Jones forced to postpone shows in Singapore & Manilla

March 26th, 2010 | By TomJones

It is with regret that Tom Jones has been forced to postpone shows in Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa on March 26th, and the Araneta Colliseum Manilla on March 28th, due to illness. Both dates are looking to reschedule, hopefully as soon as next week.

Sir Tom has been diagnosed by a specialist with Acute Laryngitis and has been ordered complete vocal rest.  The artist is deeply sorry for
disappointing and inconveniencing his fans.

All ticket holders are informed that they should hold on to their tickets for either re-entry to rescheduled show or full refund which can be made at point of purchase.

  2. I was just surfing around the TJ website and came across this story that I recall from last year. It is a singers nightmare to become ill in this way and I am very lucky not to have ever experienced such an awful period of illness.( watch out, now I will get ill! ).
Seriously though, we performers go through a very worrying time, especially during the winter months, when we get paranoid if someone just coughs anywhere near us! A sore throat is a nuisance for anyone, but for us it can mean the difference between performing at the concert or having to cancel.
It was great to see that Sir TJ made a full recovery and then went on to make a fantastic new album! Well done Tom, your energy and enthusiasm for singing are an inspiration to everyone.

They call him Jones the voice. I say, that he’s Jones with the GREATEST voice. Tom has been entertaining the world with great performances for decades and puts everything into every show.He certainly deserves a rest! I first saw him at the Hammersmith Odeon back in 1970 and he was sensational. I’m also a Big fan of Elvis but Tom as a singer is “the complete package” and can produce the magic with a ballad or a fast number. An incredible voice that has such power, range and sensitivity. Go and see this man while he still walks the planet. The longest act in the history óf Las Vegas and a true legend. Fantastic, that’s Tom Jones!

    Dearest Tom,

We are now only 2 weeks away for the biggest event to hit Muscat this millenium……You in concert.

To get us in the mood we are having pre-concert drinks and Sir Tom Jones classics on Singstar at the now legendary Muscat watering hole The Lamb Banana in MQ, which is owned & managed by our very own Welsh leg-end Gareth Owen. You may know him!

Anyhow, festivities kick-off at 6:30pm and you are most welcome to share a jar with us all before doing your thing. We are heading down the concert for 8pm and you are due on around 9, so everyone is a winner.

  11. Hi Tom,
Hope you are feeling better soon my friend. From us all in the UK.
    God bless

I remember when I was almost three years old in 1968 and Delilah was out. My good Christian mother went crazy and almost lost her salvation with this song and bought Tom’s album. We used to listen to it in the living room on our huge console stereo. I’m 43 now and just found a super video on youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sI5LWwC-cE8) of Tom singing Delilah way back in the day… I called my 71 year old mom to my pc, and she sat here and enjoyed watching it…several times! Awesome, awesome talent, Tommy! You were and still are GORGEOUS!!

  15. Darren and Lee says:

Sir Tom Jones, Loove your music. You had a sold out show last year at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA. But you also canceled due to laryngitis. I do hoe you get well soon. But I would like to know if you’re planning on coming down to the Melody Tent this year here in Hyannis, MA.
    Thanks, And Get Well Soon!

Saved up enough , got a good seat and took the day off to watch your concert. Sad you were ill. It was ok but now, April 1st is a bad date to reschedule your concert. Those of us who are Christians have to attend church services that evening to commemorate the Feast of the Lord’s Supper before Good Friday. Wish it was the day before, Wednesday, 31st March. Hopefully it will be reconsidered so I do not have to get a refund and miss a concert I waited a lifetime to experience.

  18. Johnny Murphy (The Flick) says:

Tom, I am so excited to see you in Muscat in April, so hope you get better soon. I have all your albums and a poster on my bedroom wall. I am your biggest fan ever!!! Take rest and hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe we can have a drink when you are here?

  19. Gail Human says:

Get well soon and take care of that sexy voice. I attended a concert of yours in the early eighties and am still talking about it. I hope I have the pleasure of attending another one soon. Time has been your friend, Love.

  20. Steve says:

I attended Friday night’s Tom Jones concert at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.
It is unfortunate that Tom Jones has laryngitis, but the performance should never have gone on.

Obviously his management and the promoters would have known earlier in the day and definitely prior to the show that Tom Jones would not have been able to complete the performance.

It was absolutely appalling how it was handled… performing two songs then a brief apology, before abruptly walking off the stage, leaving 4,000 people sitting in the auditorium stunned.
Some people thought he was joking. Someone from his management company, the promoter or the venue should have instantly got on stage and explained the situation rather than leaving the audience bewildered.

It showed complete disrespect for his loyal fans who had paid up to SGD$300 a ticket, some had flown in especially for the concert.

I realise illness is unforseen, but it is extremely disappointing a performer the calibre of Tom Jones, his management, the promoter and the venue would treat his audience in such an arrogant manner. I wish Tom well.
